How Network Convergence is Changing The Communication Landscape
Posted by admin in Internet on 11 30th, 2011Network convergence takes advantage of existing telephone, video, and data systems by efficiently combining them into one network. A single network with more than one communication mode delivers convenience and flexibility that single communication modes cannot offer separately.
VoIP (Voice over IP), Web surfing, videoconferencing, e-commerce, online gaming, streaming media, and texts are being used in abundance by businesses, individuals, government, and educational institutions. Users of this technology demand high quality of service, affordability, security, privacy, and more.
Solutions such as Allstream network convergence combine multiple services into one convenient package.
History of Voice and Data Networks
The emergence of mobile telephony and the Internet are considered part of the historical roots of convergence. Communication networks were established to transport various kinds of information independently.
The printed newspaper began as far back as 1436.
In the 1830′s a small scale telegraph system was developed. Samuel Morse patented the practical telegraph in 1840. In 1844, Morse set up a 40-mile telegraph line between Baltimore and Washington, DC.
Alexander Graham Bell and Thomas Watson demonstrated and patented the telephone in 1876 and in 1878 Bell formed the Bell Telephone Company and established the first switching office. In 1878, Thomas Watson applied for the first telephone ringer patent.
In 1887 the first man-made radio waves were produced. Silent pictures were introduced in 1888.
Jumping on into the year 1927, the first commercial radio telephone service was operated between the United States and Britain. “Push-to-talk” technology was created in 1946, when the first car-based mobile telephone system emerged.
The first communication satellite, Telstar, launched into orbit in 1962. The first actual cell phone began being used in 1973. In 1976, Ethernet was invented, leading to 10-Mbps Ethernet local area networks. In the latter part of the 1980′s, local area networks emerged as the most effective way to transfer data between multiple local computers.
In 1981 the digital camera and the PDA came along. The Internet came to life in 1983.
As of 1997, most schools in the United States had Internet access. Late in the 1990′s Virtual Private Networks, high-performance Backbone Network Service, desktop video conferencing, and many other significant implementations were established.
Data Networks Today
As you can see from those dates and time lines, technology has come a long way! Network convergence includes fixed-line and mobile technologies. New convergent services to emerge more recently include:
- Use of the Internet for voice telephony
- Video on demand
- Mobile-to-mobile convergence
- ocated-based services
. Fixed-mobile convergence
- IPTV
- Integrated products and bundles
- Voice over IP
Traditional routers, firewalls, and specialized appliances are now often being replaced with unified threat managers and branch-office-in-a-box systems which function as security and networking devices combined. Unified network platform is the result of the growth of convergence. Unified network platform allows customization and virtualization.
It is no longer necessary for businesses to purchase separate devices for VPN, IPS, firewall, antivirus, and other network functions such as DNS, routing, and DHCP . These functions can be combined into one device through convergence and UTM. Allstream network convergence is the smart solution to delivering all these services into one package deal!

Benefits of Using a Hosted Call Center Solution
Posted by admin in Uncategorized on 10 13th, 2011The face of business has radically changed in recent years. Technology is placing conditions on the way business processes are conducted. Savvier consumers and end-users are in a better position to formulate expectations from their product and service providers. And the global financial crisis has managed to sharply increase business competition while squeezing profit margins.
A strong relationship with your customers is paramount these days. Customers are very aware of the myriad choices available to them thanks to the increased competition. Customers are no longer satisfied with a good product or a nice service; they are looking for an experience that is meaningful and engaging.
Customer Relationship Management (CRM) is a novel business concept that has been gaining strength since its formulation in the late 1990s. Efficient CRM requires a sophisticated contact center that can record and organize customer interactions. Many companies mistakenly forego the opportunity to develop a strong contact center due to concerns over operating costs and the complexities usually associated with managing one. Hosted call center solutions easily eliminate such concerns.
Cost-effectiveness is the most often mentioned benefit of using a hosted call center solution, but there are other major advantages to consider:
Seamless integration with CRM systems
A contact center is but the first step in management of the customer experience. For a CRM system to work, accurate data collection and input are indispensable. Hosted call center solutions run on software packages that are either parts of a greater CRM system, or can be set up to interface with CRM software.
Automatic call distribution (ACD) systems
Precise routing of incoming calls is crucial in any call center. ACD systems reduce wait times for customers, ensure that the most suitable agent is available to take the call, eliminate the need to manually reassign a skilled agent, and increase the probability of successful issue resolution. Advanced ACD systems such as Telax acd can be used to route voice calls, faxes, voice mail, e-mail messages, and more.
Opportunities for growth
Hosted call center solutions are fully scalable. When a business goes into expansion mode, it must also take the contact center into consideration. With hosted call center solutions, a company can easily scale its contact center effortlessly and without having to worry about making sizable investments.
A hosted call center easily adjusts to the needs of the enterprise. A company that wishes to build an optimum contact center cannot face constraints while doing so. With hosted call center solutions, managers are free to modify the contact center’s settings and procedures according to the results they wish to achieve. Advanced Acd systems can be adjusted to ensure that certain callers are always routed to the right agents.
There are many other benefits for using hosted call centers, such as smart Interactive Voice Response systems that capture customer data and simplified training, but the CRM integration feature is the most important. No modern business enterprise should operate without a contact center and a CRM strategy.
Making File Sharing Easy
Posted by admin in Uncategorized on 07 26th, 2011I am sure there are many of you out there that work or own small or medium sized businesses that need better access to files when they are traveling or out of the office. If you have thought about setting up a server, think again because that is not the most cost effective solution these days. Servers are expensive to purchase and can be a large hassle to setup. Why not think of a better solution?
There have been many cases where I have toggled between the server solution or the ease of a file sharing program. After many days and weeks of going back and forth, I decided it would be more cost effective and beneficial to just go with a file sharing company. They make it easy to store your files online and share them with each other or your partners. Think of how easy it would be to share large files without using FTP of emailing! Not only do you save on the cost of not purchasing a server, but you also save time due to the efficiencies of a file sharing program. There are many companies out there that provide this service, but one in particular does a great job at it.
Egnyte is a company that provides and on demand file server that will allow you to share files online with ease and no security worries. Not only do they provide you with file sharing, but also with a virtual server that you can backup your important files. Anyone that has worked at an IT company knows how important backups are. With their file sharing program, it eliminates the need for a VPN as well. There are many issues with VPN’s when you are working from home or traveling, so why not elimiate them all together with Egnyte’s service. So, if you are or your company is looking between using a server or a file sharing program, I would ask you to try out file sharing first.

The faster way of finding insurance quotes
Posted by admin in Internet on 05 16th, 2011If you are buying an insurance policy, then you need to compare the rate of premium offered by different insurance providers, with the coverage that they offer. For doing this you need to get different insurance quotes. In general, an insurance company offers two kinds of insurance quotes. One is the ballpark quote and the other is the personalized quote. For personalized quotes, an insurance company might ask you about some of your specific details, as these quotes helps in comparing actual rates offered by variety of insurance polices. On the other hand, ballpark quotes are estimated figures that the insurance companies offer. If you do not have enough time for finding different quotes, then internet is here to help you. You can get online insurance quotes faster and you can also make comparison in between different quotes with the help of analysis software available on the web. It is just like my previous years in North America, I used to compare credit cards in Canada and see which one fits me the best. The best thing is that an online quote helps to save a lot of time and effort and help you to make the right decision. This is not all, the tools available on the internet is also free to use.

iPhone 5 Speculation
Posted by admin in iphone on 02 18th, 2011Every summer, Apple releases new products. Steve Jobs stands up in front of a specially selected audience and talks about what magic he has managed to produce through the hands of his diligent, focused, and technically superior staff that he has assembled in his California compound. Maybe this year it will be a cheap iPhone 4, or a new kind of tablet that will make your hair stand on end with the same kind of excitement you get from penny auctions.
Every year, Apple puts out new products, and every year, tech pundits spend the entire year trying to be the one that guesses right about what it is that Apple is going to release. And this year, there are a few different rumours, one of which has to do with an iPhone 5. There have been a lot of people speculating about what features the iPhone 5 might bless Apple customers with, but, of course, none of them can be verified until Mr. Jobs hands those golden tickets to members of the press that get to find out first-
hand what is new this year, while the rest of us watch their tweets.
So, this supposed iPhone 5 might possibly be released via Verizon only. Is it that Apple has seen the error of their ways by forcing their customers to buy their cell phones from the inferior service of AT&T, a bone of contention from many iPhone users since the release of the original one? Moving to Verizon is going to be nothing but a positive move for Apple, and rewarding customers who choose to use the provider that is going to provide them with the best service is definitely a great plan for the long run,
and it finally gives Apple customers a real reason to be loyal, as opposed to just following the hype.
Other rumours discuss the possibility that the iPhone 5 may have a screen that is up to 4 inches in size. That would put Apple in closer competition with some of the Android devices that have come out this year that feature the Android system on a larger screen. While some may be looking for ways to make their phones smaller, as phones start to have more capabilities, it only makes sense to find that happy medium between tablet device and portable telephone that also acts as your means of checking email
and reading Kindle books, watching movies and listening to music.
What is most likely is that there will not actually be an iPhone 5, but instead a next-generation iPhone 4, much like the move from the iPhone 3G to the iPhone 3GS. Maybe the iPhone 4S? The changes that are to be made to the next phone are going to most likely be very much just upgrades to the existing device, as opposed to vast changes like what we saw between the iPhone 3G and the iPhone 4. What we do know, however, is that like every other year for the last 20 years or so, Steve Jobs will do something to
give us all a reason to talk about it for another half a year, until we start speculating on what will happen next year.

Change Formet in a Glance
Posted by admin in Uncategorized on 01 24th, 2011AVI files can enclose audio and video data in to it. The quality of the audio and video is well enough and the synchronization is quite perfect in AVI. The file size of AVI is also larger than many other file formats. Because of this size problem the portable devices normally avoid this
format in to their devices. Because the space which contain one AVI file can contain four or five Mp4 files and even more. So the portable devices prefer Mp4 format than the AVI format.
There are much software is available which can convert the AVI files to Mp4 files and most of them are completely free. You can download the software from internet without any cost and then install it. Then you can convert the files of AVI format to Mp4 format by using AVI to Mp4 converter. Some software is good enough to maintain the quality after converting the files. Then you can store them in your favorite portable devices.
